Van Gogh Sunflowers

Second graders learned about the artist Vincent Van Gogh.  This lesson focused on Van Gogh's sunflower paintings.  I set a vase with sunflowers in it on each table before students came in.  Students learned about drawing from observation and how to use the basic shapes to draw a still life picture.  On painting day, students used the secondary colors to paint their pictures.  The last step was to add a black outline!  When 2nd graders were done with their painting, they completed a graphic organizer as an assessment tool.
