Paper-Mache Letters

Fifth grade art club students used art paste and cardboard to create paper-mache letters.  Art Club is open to 5th grade students, and meets twice a month on Monday's after school.  Due to the overwhelming interest to join art club, I spilt the students into two different sessions- Fall Art Club and Spring Art Club (will start in January).

For their first project, art club students created a 3D letter.  First, they used cardboard and masking tape to build the letter.  Next, students used newspaper and art paste to paper-mache the letter.  The final step was decoration!  Check out their letters below!

Guitars

5th grade art club students learned about the artist Pablo Picasso.  They used his paintings and sculptures as inspiration for their own crazy guitars.  Art club students were challenged to think BIG! They were able to use any of the materials in the art room to boost their creativity. I think they would agree with me in saying that ART CLUB ROCKS! Check out their guitars below!

Art Club Bugs

5th Grade art club students created three-dimensional bugs as their first project.

Step1 : They used balloons and warm or cool colored tissue paper to create the body form.  Once the bodies dried, they popped the balloons inside and added dots to the underside of the bug.

Step 2: Students used cloud clay (white model magic) to mold the head, stinger and beads (to be used on the wings later).  Again, they stuck with the warm or cool color pallet when painting their creations.

Step 3, 4, & 5: Create the wings out of wire! Create crazy legs using art straws & wire! Finally, last but not least, glue everything together.  Check out their bugs below!
