Second grade students learned about the difference between a buffalo and a bison. This was a 2 day project. Day 1: Drawing the Buffalo and Bison. After they drew their animals on black paper, they added fur with brown paint. Day 2: Painting a landscape background. Students drew the horizon line first, then added a sun and rolling hills. Next, they cut out their animals and used white glue to attach them to the landscape! Check out their Native American inspired landscapes!

Leaf Prints
I did this project last year as well, but it was such as huge hit I had to do it again! First grade students learned about printmaking while making these beautiful leaf prints. First, they use white paint to print their leaves on black paper. Next they used small sponges to outline their leaves with the warm colors. They also used the sponges to fill in the background.

Third grade students studied the different parts of landscapes- background, middle ground and foreground. They discussed examples of each section as a class and then drew their landscapes with glue on black paper. The next day, they used warm and cool colored oil pastels to add color.
