Out of picture storage?

Hello fellow blogger friends!

This evening, I was trying to upload some more pictures when suddenly an error message pops up!!!

"Whoops, you've seemed to have used all of your free storage space.  To purchase more, go to Google+."

As you probably know, pictures are stored via Picasa.  Somehow I've used my free 1GB of space.  I didn't even know that was possible, but apparently it is.  So now what?  Has anyone else run into this problem?   Is this a real thing, or just a scam?  What should I do?! I don't really want to "buy" more storage. That seems silly.  What's an art teacher to do?  I just want to share my student's work on a teacher salary budget.

Comments are welcome!  Thanks in advance!

  1. This conversation came up last year on another blog and I attempted to get to the bottom of what the Picasa Web limitations are. (There is a page that explains it.) As I recall we are limited to a certain amount of memory AND a certain number of photos per album. I was approaching my memory limit because I hadn't bothered to adjust my camera to a PC setting. I think it said that photos under 800 pixels on the longest side (length) were free, but over that the megabytes started adding up to the limit of 1000. So, last summer I started going back and resizing a LOT of my photos until I got my album down to under 500mb. Tedious, but it worked. Resizing did not change the original photo on my computer, nor did it change the size or quality of the photos on my blog. My concern now is what happens when I get to the total number of 1000 photos in my blog album? It wasn't clear to me whether paying their monthly fee would extend that total # as well as extending the memory issue. I know I'll have to figure this out near the end of this school year, so if you find a good solution I will be anxious to hear about it.

  2. It happened to me. I never used to resize my photos. Since it was in the middle of the year, I paid like $5 for more storage. But now that I resize to 1000 pixels on the widest size, I don't use nearly as much.

  3. Saw this on another blog recently, too. I just paid the fee when I went over last year.
